About the Kiwi Kai Sea Lodge 18

Kiwi Kai is perfect for the couple or family that enjoys tropical open-air living. This 910 square foot home sits right on the beach at Cayman Kai, Rum Point, North Side, on the island of Grand Cayman. You will be a few steps from snorkeling, swimming or wading in the crystal clear Caribbean Sea. Soak up the sun on your just about private sandy beach where you can listen to the gentle sounds of the waves lapping within the reef 200 yards away. All rooms have Caribbean views and open to screened porches with patio set, chaise lounges, hammock and BBQ. Ceilings are vaulted to 16 feet with Casablanca fans throughout. Kiwi Kai also includes louvre doors which allow the breezes to circulate freely and obviate the need for air conditioning. The kitchen is fully equipped with updated Corian counters and sink, and a new washer/dryer are available for your use. The comfortable living room includes a sleeper sofa and contains a library of 250+good books and a cabinet full of various games. This is definitely a retreat from a busy world and a get away from the touristy spots elsewhere on the island. We do, however, supply smart TV with Netflix connectivity and a modem for Ethernet & wireless Internet access.

For more action, head over to Rum Point – a short walk or drive away where you can pick up excursions (Stingray Sandbar, snorkeling, glass bottom boat tour, etc.) and rent snorkeling, safety, and water sports equipment. You can also find a bite to eat there at the Wreck Bar (casual lunch on the beach) and Rum Point Club (nice dinner at Rum Point). Kaibo Beach Bar and Grill (casual lunch and dinner on the beach), Kaibo Upstairs (special occasion dinners), and Starfish Point are just a few minutes away. The bioluminescent bay is also nearby, and there are a few operators that offer night-time kayak tours, depending on the time of the month. Check out the Queen Elizabeth II Royal Botanic Park (~20 minutes from Kiwi Kai), the Blue Iguana Recovery Program (tours available at the Botanic Park), and the Mastic Trail (~20 minutes from Kiwi Kai).

We love hearing from our guests and appreciate that our guests love Kiwi Kai, Sea Lodge 18 as much as we do!

Sea Lodge #18 is a fine place for easy, private, and idyllic holiday. For our time there, we had the entire beach to ourselves. Everything is laid on, including plenty of towels, and lots of little extras that made for an easier trip and fewer journeys out to the store. Good library of books and videos. The best snorkeling on the island (and we checked it out) is right outside or within a reasonable swim of the lodge. Absolutely no complaints – not a luxury place (who needs that anyway?) but cool, comfortable, and well-appointed.

Absolutely wonderful!!! It was great to have someone do our shopping before we arrived. One whole week without a car or television and it was heaven. The oceanfront view was unbelievable. Great collection of reading.

We are back safely from our stay at Sea Lodge 18 at Rum Point in Cayman. What an amazing time we had! We loved the sunrises, moonrises, eating on the patio facing the sea, the weather, the lodge, the kitty, the fishes, the stingrays, the palm trees, the seclusion … , Barbara [property manager], Rum Point, the sunsets at Rum Point, napping in the hammocks at Rum Point, the beverages at Rum Point, the snorkeling which we did a good two hours of everyday, sipping our own drinks while staring [at] the Milky Way and watching for shooting stars, living in our swim suits, cooking our own food, napping under a palm tree, the quiet, the no tv reception, no news.

The Beach at Kiwi Kai was simply marvelous. We were in absolutely gorgeous water 3-4 hours each day. The reef was less than 200 yards out, and there was abundant sea life for us to observe on our daily snorkeling trips. This was truly a destination we cherished and will hopefu;ly return to. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we enjoyed an island paradise.

We spent a week [at Kiwi Kai/Sealodge 18], and it was great. The unit is very well-furnished, clean and pleasant, and only a few steps away from one of the best sand beaches on the North Side. When we had a problem figuring out how to control the fan speed in the kitchen, Barbara’s (property manager) husband was there in a half hour and helped us sort it all out.

A nice surprise was that the unit was well-stocked with the little things like condiments, plenty of paper towels, even some laundry soap! It was just like being home, except of course for the fabulous setting.

You do need to rent a car. There is so much to see along the North Side and East End that you cannot walk to. Over the Edge restaurant was a quick 10 minute drive for an excellent menu featuring locally sourced fare.
Rum Point is an “interesting” place. Built to attract tourists, but with lots of amenities including Red Sail Sports for rentals and charters, 2 restaurants, and a great setting.

Do NOT miss snorkeling out to the Coral Boulder Gardens. It is not a difficult swim at all if you are experienced. I would not send a first timer out there though. Just look for the channel marker a couple hundred yards out from the rocky point. Just ask, if you aren’t sure. Some of the best snorkeling we have seen in more than 30 years, with huge coral heads, loads of fish, and sea fans, etc. in about 15 ft of water.

Just spent a wonderful week at Kiwi Kai. We loved the location–quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Everything we needed was left for us. Very comfortable. It got warm later in the day, but the fans were enough to keep us cool.

The Sea Lodge had everything we needed during our stay including a well equipped kitchen for cooking in, a comfy king bed, and a lovely hammock to star gaze in each night. The beach was our own private paradise as we only saw our neighbors on occasion and the snorkeling was some of the best on the island. We would highly recommend the Sea Lodge for anyone who desires to get away from it all and enjoy a relaxing and fun vacation in paradise. As a side note, we recommend a car rental for the ability to get groceries, explore other parts of the island and enjoy the occasional night out.

This was my first time to the Caribbean. I was looking for quiet, clean and relaxing…I got all 3 and then some.

The Sea Lodges are beautifully kept and the location is just rural enough to satisfy my desire of quiet. The white sandy beach was a 30 second walk. The water was blue and warm. I loved being able to walk back to the Sea Lodge throughout the day ?

The location is tranquil, beautiful and relaxing. All the rooms were comfortable, we lacked for nothing. I enjoyed reading the journal entries from other guests. I appreciated all the fans, because it gets hot, but I loved hearing the rolling waves, and to feel the breeze. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet getaway. There weren’t many guests around, which was perfect for me … . We walked up to Rum Point and saw a fantastic sunset. We ate at Over the Edge, and had some delicious fish. We snorkeled every day, and loved what we saw … . What a glorious week seeing God’s creation that’s under the sea! We’re so glad to have had a chance to stay in the Caymans. Thank you.

Kiwi Kai [Sealodge 18] was more than we could have asked for, and even though we endured a hard long winter in Michigan and some simple pleasures would have sufficed, this exceeded our expectations …

The few owners and vacationers we did come across at the lodge were very friendly and always willing to help, answer questions, or give tips. For example, our neighbor shared that they had lunch and beverages at not only a good deal, but also tasty with great views. Kaibo Yacht Club was great; my only regret is that we didn’t discover it until it was too late to dine there for a formal dinner (Thursday through Sunday). In our opinion, Kiwi Kai had one of the best beaches on the island, and we did explore the island. 7 Mile Beach was touristy and overly crowded. We did find a secluded beach farther to the north but only to discover the water was infested with sea urchins! If we wanted more people interaction, we would just snorkel or walk our way to Rum Point (the snorkeling was fabulous!), or venture over to Kaibo Yacht Club. Our snorkel and Sting Ray City pkg. from Rum Point was definitely worth the money and time. The colors of life took our breaths away, and the sting rays were an incredible experience …

Great sleep with the bedroom door open listening to the waves breaking. Meals on the screened-in porch were delightful as well. Our unit was clean and aesthetically pleasing. We had a great mix of activity and relaxation. Normally, my wife and I like to travel to different islands or countries for vacations, but we both agreed we would return to this glimpse of heaven, with or without our children.
